Professor Greer has also held faculty positions at Harvard University, the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, and the Centre for Materials Innovation, Washington University (St Louis). He chairs Cambridge's working group to develop research and teaching on nuclear energy.
A Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Professor Greer is also an editor of Philosophical Magazine (founded in 1798, publishing papers on the structure and properties of condensed matter). His research interests are in microstructural kinetics, specifically on glass formation and crystal nucleation, in grain refinement in metallurgical solidification, in chalcogenide thin films for phase-change data storage and in electromigration. He has published more than 300 scientific papers.
